Did you kick off the holiday season with us in Taipei at the Pinkoi holiday market? This was the biggest Pinkoi Market ever, held in 1914 Huashan Creative Park, with new workshops and entertainment zones in addition to 200 indie brands from across East and Southeast Asia. The editors were there too (and bought some gifts—for ourselves?!) so let’s flashback to the weekend for a recap!
This year’s Pinkoi holiday market was held at Huashan Creative Park. At the entrance to the venue, you’ll be greeted by our cute holiday fatties! (It’s the Instagram spot!)
The crowd is lining up to enter!
Editor Pegi loves shopping on Pinkoi and is super excited! She’s taking us straight to the designers that flew in from outside of Taiwan. Let’s follow her steps.
Fighting against the crowd, we finally got in.
Say hello to Ce-ha-lo from Thailand!
Yes, the brand name is pronounced as “say hello”! They hand-paint bowls and dishes with cute storybook style illustrations and inspirational quotes atop a pastel glaze. They’ll make us so happy and content every time we use it!
Of course editor Pegi couldn’t resist these smiles and got something for herself!
Gifts we recommend from Ce-ha-lo: Smiley Spoons, Smiley Dish.
The Makers from Makers’ Base in Japan are here again!
Makers’ Base returned to Taipei once again! They brought with them delicate acrylic earrings as well as hedgehog, rabbits apple, and even lipstick brooches. True to the maker spirit, they were making acrylic accessories with their special equipments at the market for everyone to see.
Makers’ Base is an old friend and also joined Pinkoi market a few years ago. Take a closer look at what the Japanese makers are up to!
Gifts we recommend from Makers’ Base: hedgehog brooch, rabbit apple brooch.
Again, count on Pegi to start digging into her wallet! She’s trying on the paintbrush earrings.
Ohpopdog from Singapore brought really comfy fashion for dogs
Besides gifts and products for men and women, there are also many gifts for pets at the market! Ohpopdog is a pet clothing brand for Singapore who daringly make pet clothing with fashion apparel fabrics. You’ll find denim, ruffles and fashionable designs here for the furry friends. Dress up the pups for the holidays!
Gifts we recommend from Ohpopdog: Pug pin, Soft Denim Pintuck Shirt.
Ohpopdog’s booth is very cozy, and they brought their catalogue so you can keep flipping through the cute designs.
Now, there’s more than shopping at the Pinkoi Market—remember the popular workshops? They’re back! Let’s check them out now.
People were screen printing limited edition Pinkoi Market tote bags
Look at the racks of Pinkoi canvas totes hanging to dry! This year we have the holiday fatty characters as our tote bag design, and guests can print the bags themselves. Pegi really wanted one!
They also made Christmas Cards with holiday stamps at the stamping station
The crowd also flocked to the Pinkoi stamping station to print and design their own Christmas cards. Many people even brought a stamp collector to collect the stamps here, we love it!
Watching live painting was the best way to take a break from walking
Four artists and designers brought their talent into action with live painting at the market. After long walks, it’s time to sit down, take a break and enjoy the artists paint right in front of you.
Designer from Singaporean brand Xhundredfold was very focused on painting colors in abstract patterns.
Designer from Indonesian brand Liunic On Things was also focused on her craft while the crowd enjoyed the show.
Designer gave free workshops; we learned lessons and tried making jewelry too
For this holiday season’s Pinkoi Market, we tried to create more opportunities for up-close interactions between customers and designers. Live painting was one of those, as were the interactive workshops where designers shared stories about their brands and provide hands-on experiences that guests could participate on stage.
Haohuo Lab demonstrated how to make festive decorations—leather Christmas tree and little houses!
INTZUITION jewelry brand shared their brand story and business experiences, and invited fans to try their hands on goldsmithing and jewelry making techniques.
We printed posters and made holiday planter decorations
See how talented the designers are? Besides live painting and talks, some of them offered crafting workshops (for a fee) for printing posters and decorating planters.
Paperwork taught us how to use the printing machine and print Christmas fatties posters!
191 Feng showed us how to make festive planter decorations with pinecones for the holidays!
We saw art and illustration at the holiday gallery
Getting hands-on was fun! We couldn’t get enough of the art, so headed towards the gallery corner to enjoy more artworks by the Pinkoi designers and artists. Isn’t it nice to slow down even in the bustle of the holiday market?
